Matt Brown
Matt Brown is a founding principal of YBA Architects. Matt has worked in diverse contexts worldwide on award-winning, transformational buildings and urban designs of many types and scales. Having grown up in a small southern Oregon timber town and having lived, worked and completed university studies in Oregon, Hong Kong, Japan and England, Matt brings a unique combination of local understanding and global experience and capability to the practice.
Over more than a quarter century working in the profession, Matt has garnered experience in a wide variety of sectors with public, private and non-profit clients. Urbanism and captivating architecture with a focus on efficient utilization of space are cornerstones of his approach. He has led design and delivery of several significant urban mixed-use developments in both urban and suburban contexts. Matt brings an ability to lead and contribute to development from high-level strategic visioning and planning all the way to detailed design, documentation and delivery of key buildings and public amenity spaces. This makes him a dynamic resource for developers, cities and communities.
Prior to founding YBA in 2014, Matt was a design architect and urban designer at internationally-acclaimed Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBS) in London, England for half a decade. Matt is a registered architect in Oregon, Washington, Arizona and the UK, and is an active member of ULI, serving on the Suburban Product Council for the Northwest chapter.
Outside of architecture and development, Matt is a devoted parent to his two sons, coaches youth soccer teams, enjoys alpine skiing, hiking, camping and swimming. He sits on the board of Third Rail Repertory Theater Company, volunteers as a youth skiing Race Administrator for Meadows Race Team and serves as a Cub Scout leader.
